In less than 24hrs, I transformed a pair of drab vintage Calvin Klein blue jean shorts into a funky pair of white cutoffs, with a tribal inspired fabric sewn on.
This amazing dress was a 21st birthday gift from my best friend. I wore it to my university’s end of the year award celebration in mid-April. Somehow I managed to not take one single solo photo that night. I was so bummed—and felt such a connection to the dress—that I decided to put it back on the next morning for a mini photo shoot (shot by my awesome roommate) outside of our apartment complex. These may be some of my favorite photographs of myself.
Peace to the Kings and Queens, the Gods and Earths.
I’ve been playing with these girls for some time. I’d been having a conversation with myself about connectedness, coming from everywhere but feeling that I belonged no where; aggregate of my interactions and experiences but belonging to no one. In that too, is the dynamic of functioning but with missing parts - helpless in some aspects, powerful in others - ambidextrous amputees.
This speaks to me a part of me.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
“if I had one religion it would surely be, a love song in the distance. a soft melody.”
